Blueberries

Summer came early to Pocantico on Wednesday. Blueberries were the fruit of choice in the cafeteria as our monthly tasting. I tried blueberries for the first time a few years ago and was amazed at what I had been missing. I like to eat them plain. How do you like to eat blueberries?

Henry the Hand teaches us how to wash!

This week in computer class you all got to visit Henry the Hand and your teachers got Henry's posters to hang in their rooms. All the students from 1st grade through 4th grade made their own posters to remind them how important it is to wash their hands. Do you remember Henry's rules for handwashing?

Eggs, Eggs, Eggs.....

Last week Dr. Palombo's 8th grade Home and Career Skills class boiled, shelled, and cut up eggs for a tasting in the cafeteria. Did you know that the fresher the eggs, the harder it will be to peel them, and the more the shell membranes cling tightly to the shells. It was a lot of work and the Wellness committee is very grateful for their help! What did you think of the eggs?

Top o' the Morning to Ya

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Today we celebrated and tasted cabbage. Did you know that one serving (1/12 of a head) of cabbage as 25 calories and 60% of your daily supply of vitamin C? You can use cabbage in salads, casseroles, soups, stews, and coleslaw. I like to use cabbage in salad and coleslaw. Today we tasted Nina's coleslaw. A few of you had seconds and even thirds. Want to hear something funny I just read? Ancient Egyptians worshiped cabbage! I hope you remembered to tell Nina you liked it.
Do you have a favorite way to eat cabbage?

Calling all cookie lovers!!!

Today CNN posted some questions about Girl School cookie sales. I often see children in team uniforms selling boxes of candy in front of the grocery store. Do you think that children should sell food that is not particularly healthy to raise money for schools, sports teams, or organizations? What other ways are there for them to raise money? What other things could they sell instead?
